BIODIESEL PROCESS
Making the best use of our resources, coming from direct extracts and at times,
recycled waste is a concept that has fast caught up in the recent times. A lot
of natural sources that are normally thrown as waste could be processed to form
Biodieselwhich could be used in numerous ways. There are two main sources that
contribute to the making of this product namely animal fat and vegetable oils.

The manufacturing plants that are set up to make Biodiesel have unique machinery
equipment in place. Raw materials such as vegetable oils or cooking oil extracted
from soya, palm or corn are the main sources. At times some plants also use animal
fats or cooking oil that is recycled in order to extract Biodiesel through a
specific process which is known as trasesterification. In order to reach this
specific process, the right oils are collected and processed in the manner specified.

The process of trasesterification involves the addition of two other ingredients
namely an alcoholic substance and secondly a catalyst that proves to facilitate
the process. This is done prior to the process as it is a method of purification
where methanol normally acts as the alcoholic substance and potassium the catalyst.
In some cases sodium hydroxide is also used as an alternative catalytic agent.
Alkyl is the substance that remains after the completion of this process. Once
this is formed it is further sent to be purified in order to make it look like
clarified fuel. This is a continuous scientific process that separates the
glycerin from the oil and it is then that we are finally left with Biodiesel.

This Biodiesel fuel can be either used directly or in mixed form. It is most
commonly mixed with petrodiesel to be able to provide with at least a partial
environment friendly product. Manufacturers do the mixing of both the products
normally at the factory itself based on its demand. But at times it could also
be done by mixing the Biodiesel later with a tank of petrodiesel at the bunks
itself. Since Biodiesel has umpteen uses and benefits it is widely suggested
that people use it to run automobiles. The greatest advantage is that one
needn’t have to change any fuel technology in the engine to run his vehicle
on Biodiesel. It can simply be mixed with any other fuel like petrol or diesel.
Contribute to this excellent way of having a clean environment as Biodiesel
is a wonderful instance of making best use of waste.
